SPORT; IT’S ALL ENGLAND AT WIMBLEDON AND WEMBLEY THIS WEEK

By Bill Heaney

Emma Raducanu’s dream debut run at Wimbledon continued into the fourth round with victory over Romania’s world number 45 Sorana Cirstea.

And that gives us all something worthwhile to look forward to when she takes part in the second week of Wimbledon later this week.

We also have more Euros football matches to see on the TV.  Contrary to cynics, the play has turned out to be impressive and England did very well to demolish the hopes of Ukraine in Rome last evening.

They meet Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday. The fact that Harry Kane, PICTURED, is back in form gave the Auld Enemy a badly needed boost and they could now go all the way to the final.

I have a feeling though that they may fall at the final hurdle when they meet Italy – well, I hope they meet Italy – in the Final.

Emma Raducanu, the 18-year-old British wildcard, ranked 338th and fresh from completing her A-Levels, impressed in a 6-3 7-5 win.

Radacanu may well live in London and we’ll never hear the end of the fact that she’s a Brit right down to her ankle socks, but she was born in Canada of a Canadian mother and a Chinese father.

Playing on a show court for the first time, Emma stunned 31-year-old Cirstea by taking eight games in a row.

“I am so speechless right now,” Raducanu said.

“I didn’t know what my reaction would be, and then that just happened. I’m so, so grateful for all the support I had today.

“This is by far the biggest court I’ve played on. I think I coped quite well in the beginning, I just tried to hold my nerve.

“When I was packing to come into the bubble, my parents said, ‘Aren’t you packing too much match kit?’ I am luck though that the hotel we’re in has a laundry service which I’ll be using tonight.”

Raducanu will face Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic next.
