TRAFFIC CHAOS PREDICTED AS ALEXANDRIA BYPASS IS CLOSED BETWEEN STONEYMOLLAN AND RENTON

Drivers in West Dunbartonshire and Argyll are being warned to plan ahead due to works taking place on the Alexandria by-pass road starting tomorrow.

The by-pass road will be closed southbound between Stoneymollan and Renton from 8pm to 6am both tomorrow and Thursday, September 16, with diversions via the A811 through Balloch and the A813 via Bonhill to Lomondgate, where there are bound to be tailbacks.

A stretch of the northbound A82 on the approach to Stoneymollan will also be closed continuously between 8pm on Friday, September 17 and 6am on Friday, September 24, with a contraflow in place.

A total of £900,000 is being spent on the two phases of the work. The money spent on the folly at the Stoneymollan roundabout, which was designed by the leading Scottish sculptor Sandy Stoddart, around £1 million, was indeed just that – a folly.

And the bitterly criticised huge wooden pillars and flying ducks have now been premanently removed.

Road workers will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s Covid-19 guidance.

However, put the kettle on for traffic chaos and avoid the area if that’s possible.
