Health Board celebrates its heroes: Shortlist and award ceremony details announced

By Neil McSeveny

The local health board,  NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), has announced the shortlist ahead of its annual Celebrating Success awards, which recognises the hard work and dedication of staff across services.

The award winners for 2021 will be revealed on the 23rd of February via a virtual ceremony and the full shortlist can be found here.

Staff and the public are invited to tune in at 7pm via the NHSGGC website to hear about how staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty during what has been an unprecedented and extremely challenging time for the service.

The virtual event will be hosted by National Clinical Director, Professor Jason Leitch, left,  and sees 18 local staff awards announced, following a public call to nominate their health heroes in 2021.

This will be followed by the excellence awards, which highlights individuals and teams within NHGGC and their incredible efforts and sacrifices over the past 23 months.

The event will also feature performances from NHSGGC’s well-known choir led by Chaplain Jim Meighan and the audience will also hear from NHSGGC Chairman, Professor John Brown and Chief Executive, Jane Grant.

NHSGGC Chairman, Professor John Brown, said: “The pandemic might have postponed our annual awards, but our staff have continued to work tirelessly, demonstrate innovation and most importantly, continued to deliver top-class patient-centred care.

“These awards go some way to recognising that effort and I look forward to seeing the winners, however, I’d like to congratulate all of our staff across NHSGGC and our HSCPs for their part in responding to the pandemic.

“Their commitment, dedication and compassion have shone through the service throughout the past 24 months and every day they demonstrate what it is to work for the NHS. For that I thank them.”

National Clinical Director for the Scottish Government, Professor Jason Leitch added:   “I am privileged to host this year’s NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Celebrating Success ceremony. We’ve seen two years like no other, and my hat goes off to all NHS staff who’ve responded so magnificently to the pandemic.

“This makes the task of choosing winners even harder than normal as there have been so many instances of individuals and teams going over and above to help deliver person-centred care to patients across NHSGGC. As such, my huge thanks to all NHSGGC staff for their ongoing contribution to the health service in Scotland – before the pandemic, during the height of the pandemic, and, as we continue to recover the NHS in the context of COVID-19.”

The event will be able to view on the NHSGGC website on the 23rd of February from 7pm onwards and in the meantime, the full shortlist can be viewed here.
