Responding to reports of people struggling to submit their energy meter readings yesterday, Scottish Liberal Democrat Energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said: “With people anxious about their energy bills and the cost of living, energy companies should have been prepared for a surge in people submitting their readings yesterday.
“Instead, we saw websites crashing and phone lines rammed on the eve of prices going up. This has left many consumers worried they’ll be facing higher bills, despite doing everything right.
“Given it’s the big energy companies that are at fault, they should offer customers a two-day grace period to submit their readings either today or tomorrow at the lower rate. It’s the least they can do.
“Meanwhile the Scottish Government should be getting to work on a national insulation programme to cut bills for every home.”
