JOURNALISM: Lucrezia Millarini to host Media Freedom Awards 2022

Lucrezia Millarini, the renowned presenter and reporter for ITV News will host next month’s prestigious Media Freedom Awards ceremony.

With more than 10 years live broadcast experience, Millarini presents ITV News London’s flagship show and she has reported on the programme’s RTS award-winning coverage of the Grenfell Tower fire and anchored ITV’s breaking news coverage of the London Bridge terror attack.Millarini studied law at Bristol and trained as a barrister before becoming a journalist and is a keen supporter of animal rights and backs various charities including the Cats Protection League, The Humane Society and PETA.

The Media Freedom Awards champagne reception, dinner and ceremony will take place on the evening of 9 November 2022 at the Globe Theatre in London. The headline sponsor for the awards is WeShop with additional support from Camelot, the Google News Initiative and Newsworks.

Those wishing to attend the upcoming Media Freedom Awards champagne reception, dinner and ceremony on Wednesday 9 November 2022 at the Globe Theatre in London are urged to book now as there are only a handful of tables left available.

Launched earlier this year, the Awards set the benchmark for a celebration of UK public interest journalism and will see nearly 300 journalists comes together to shine a light on the crucial role that the UK news media plays in promoting media freedom, championing the public’s right to know and holding power to account.

Registration still open for Behind Local News conference

Registration is still open for Behind Local News’ annual conference for journalists which will take place at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

Free to attend, the conference will see an agenda-setting programme of topics alongside its annual awards recognising women in journalism.

Given that it is a free event, tickets are limited for those wishing to attend and who are not part of the organising publishers: Iliffe Media, DC Thomson, Newsquest or Reach plc.

Apply before 31st October for Georgina Henry Award 2022

Women in Journalism (WiJ) is proud to support the brightest new ideas with a £4,000 annual prize sponsored by Wiggin LLP, in memory of the Guardian’s late deputy editor, Georgina Henry, also a former Women in Journalism chair.

The prize is used to support an initiative by the applicant. Applicants can be any age, working in either print or multimedia and the winner will be an honorary Women in Journalism Fellow.

Judges will look for a flair for storytelling, as well as evidence of innovation or impact as well an identifiable voice and understanding for a specific subject.

The award will be presented at the Press Gazette’s British Journalism Awards in December 2022.
