Moving forward together for the Vale

Staff at the Vale of Leven Hospital have treated more than 15,000 patients through the site’s Minor Injuries Unit and Medical Assessment Unit in the last year, exceeding the expectation set out in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Vision for the Vale plan.
The Health Board published its strategy for the site in 2008, which outlined how the Vale would be continue to be a vibrant and busy hospital, providing a range of important services to the local community.
Part of that plan included ensuring that, where appropriate and possible, services for residents of the local area were delivered at the Vale, rather than at another NHSGGC site.
As well as the success in planned care, a recent meeting between the board and the site’s Hospitalwatch group also highlighted an increase in activity in general surgery, orthopaedics, endoscopy and ENT as well as the new urology and ophthalmology services.
Following the success of the Vision for the Vale plan, ongoing work relating to the site will continue through the Health Board’s Moving Forward Together strategy.
Melanie McColgan, NHSGGC’s Director for Clyde, said: “The Vale plays a central role in delivering health services for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and I am glad that we were able to demonstrate our continuing commitment to the hospital and its services.
“We were pleased to be able to present the work that has been done in our recent meeting with Hospitalwatch and representatives for the community and we will continue to work closely with them, as we continue to implement our Moving Forward Together strategy.”
Further commitments, made in 2008, including existing general medicine outpatient and day patient services remaining at the Vale have also been delivered.
William Edwards, NHSGGC’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We know how highly regarded the Vale is in the local community and we are pleased to see so much progress has been made through the Vision for the Vale.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated staff for their continued hard work and dedication to their community. I would also like to thank those from Hospitalwatch for the continued support they show for the Vale of Leven Hospital and local community.”
Jim Moohan from Hospitalwatch said: “Once again we had a very constructive meeting with senior staff from the Health Board to discuss the present position of the Vale of Leven Hospital and our views of taking it forward to sustain services and improve the quality of life for the community.
“We look forward to having a constructive dialogue with the Health Board on how we can take forward the work that has been done in the Vision for the Vale. We will continue to work together with the Health Board for the people of the community of West Dunbartonshire.” |
