More top names added to Future of News line-upMore influential editors, journalists and industry experts have been added to the line-up for the Society of Editors’ Future of News conference in March.
Ben Taylor, recently announced as the new Editor of The Sunday Times will join a distinguished Editors’ Panel looking at the future of news and challenges facing the industry.
Other confirmed speakers this week include Sarah Whitehead, Deputy Head of Newsgathering at Sky News, Sophia Smith Galer, Senior News Reporter at VICE World News and Rebecca Camber, Crime and Security Editor at the Daily Mail.

Sustainability of local journalism report

MPs have called for more support for local journalism to “revive” and ensure a “sustainable future” for the industry. In a report by the DCMS Select Committee into the ‘Sustainability of Local Journalism’published this week, MPs said that more help was needed to halt the “decline in local journalism”.

Mental health training

Women in Journalism is partnering with the Headlines Network to offer free mental health training for managers on Feb 10 at 10am. The virtual workshop will last no longer than two hours, and will feature role-play-based breakouts where participants can act out and observe scenarios based on real experiences.

Anti-SLAPP progress

A private member’s bill, introduced this week by MP Bob Seely, would enable courts in England and Wales to punish wealthy and powerful individuals that engage in vexatious lawsuits knows as SLAPPs. The bill, which incorporates many of the key components of the model law drawn up by the UK Anti-SLAPP Coalition, was presented on Tuesday.
