NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde opens applications for new Chair

By Bill Heaney

Applications are now open to appoint a new Chair of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to take over from Professor John Brown.

A Health Board spokesman explained: “Within NHS Scotland a NHS Board chair can be in post for a maximum of two terms, with each of these terms lasting four years (eight years in total).

“The current NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde chair, Professor John Brown CBE, pictured right, is coming to the end of his second term in post and therefore we are looking to recruit for this position.
“Professor Brown is not intending to retire and is currently exploring fresh opportunities to continue his public service.”
Professor Brown is currently at the centre of a major controversy which resulted in a postponed public inquiry into post construction conditions, which are alleged to have resulted in the deaths of patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.
The Health Board has also been accused of spying on the social media accounts of the relative of at least one patient who died at the hospital.

The advertisement for the post states:

As Scotland’s largest health board, providing health services to over one million local residents, delivering specialist regional services to more than half the country’s population and employing approximately 41,000 staff, NHSGGC is seeking to employ an experienced individual to undertake the position as our Chair.

NHSGGC is keen to attract an individual with strong leadership experience, vision and drive to lead in this  demanding but very rewarding and fulfilling role.

NHS Scotland’s values are at the heart of everything we do within NHSGGC. As Chair of the Board, you will need to be able to demonstrate behaviour aligned to these values of care and compassion; dignity and respect; openness, honesty and responsibility; and, quality and teamwork.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde welcomes applicants from all walks of life and would encourage anyone who feels that they meet the requirements for the position, to apply online.
