BOOKS: HAPPY BIRTHDAY Billy Connolly

Happy birthday, Billy. Bet you got loads of pressies. And a few books. We would love you to help us with a library problem. All the weans in Balloch are about to be deprived of their library because the Labour Council – at the behest of the SNP – wants to shut it to save a measly £50,000. When you see what councils squander that’s nothing these days. It would not be so bad if the Council didn’t have the money, but they have, having saved it by not having to carry out some cuts where it was eventually discovered that none was needed. So, we know you love weans and the weans love you. We know you have spent many happy times in Balloch, Bonhill and on Loch Lomond. We know you love books and artworks and all the other things that libraries encourage. Can you please write to The Labour Group, West Dunbartonshire Council, Church Street, Dumbarton, and ask them to keep Balloch Library open for the weans – and the adults too, of course. It would be a great Christmas present for them and you too would be a little happier as a consequence of having helped out. Best regards, The Editor, The Democrat.
