First Minister Humza Yousaf’s brother-in-law charged with drug offences

First Minister Humza Yousaf’s brother-in-law has been charged in connection with alleged drug offences following an incident in Dundee.

Ramsay El-Nakla is the sibling of the First Minister’s wife Nadia El-Nakla and was arrested by police officers after a break-in was reported in the city on Thursday.

Police Scotland confirmed that a 50-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were also arrested and charged.

Mr El-Nakla and his two co-accused are scheduled to appear before Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday.

Mr Yousaf and his wife currently live in the Broughty Ferry suburb in Dundee, where she serves as a local councillor.  The First Minister is the MSP for Glasgow Pollok.

The arrest of Mr El-Nakla was first reported in the Sunday Post newspaper who said that the SNP leader refused to comment when approached.

Meanwhile, his wife said: “I don’t have any comment just now. Let’s see what happens in the next few days.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to a report of a break-in at a property on Balmoral Gardens in Dundee during the evening of Thursday, January 11.
“Three people – two men, aged 50 and 36, and a 41-year-old woman – were traced and all have been arrested and charged in connection with drug offences.”
