Bully dog shot by police after mauling owner was ‘rescued two weeks ago’

Shopkeeper said the animal had only recently been rescued after it was ‘beaten and abandoned’

The horror attack in Hamilton on Tuesday night left one victim with serious lower limb injuries.

Armed officers descended onto the Tinto View area of the South Lanarkshire town after receiving reports of the attack by an out-of-control dog at around 5pm.

Paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended and one man was found seriously injured.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, where his current condition is unknown.

A second man – who was mauled by the same dog on Loudonhill Avenue, shortly before the incident on Tinto View – was taken to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
