FORFAR ATHLETIC 2 DUMBARTON 2/club statement on ownership

SONS HELD AT THE ROCK

Dumbarton led twice but couldn’t hold on for all three points against Forfar Athletic.

Michael Ruth headed in the opener for Sons just before the quarter of the hour though Stuart Morrison equalised for the visitors almost immediately.

Marc Kelly regained the hosts lead before the interval when he timed his run into the six-yard box to meet Aaron Healy’s low cross.

That was how the scoring would remain until the 77th minute when Rayan Mohammed was quickest to react after an initial save from Jay Hogarth.

Sons could have won it in added time when Ruth fired over the crossbar from close range.

It’s a quick return to action for Dumbarton who host Spartans on Tuesday night.

CLUB STATEMENT

In a recently published newspaper and online article, a Sons Supporters Trust spokesperson was quoted as stating that the Club’s chairman and board had a ”currently stated position of acquiescence on matters of club ownership”.

This is both false and misleading. There is no position, stated or otherwise, of acquiescence on any issues. To allege otherwise would naturally cause grave concern among fans, shareholders and other interested parties.

We are grateful, therefore, to David Brownlee, chairman of the Trust, for his retraction of that assertion during a recent meeting with the Club’s chair and vice chair.

We acknowledge that Fraser Clarke, the author of the article, has edited the online version and will report the retraction in print.

For several months there have been meetings, at the instigation of the Club, with representatives of the Sons Trust. We see these as an important way in which to exchange information, ideas and expectations and we are now content that there is a basis upon which these can continue.

It is vital that supporters’ views about the future development of the club are represented at a time when we will be collaborating with other essential partners. We remain committed to working with all stakeholders to the benefit of Dumbarton Football Club, its fans and the wider community.
