Elopement weddings and civil ceremonies on the rise in Helensburgh

On top of these, they also carried out five vow renewals and one naming ceremony last year.

Registrars have witnessed a large rise in civil ceremonies throughout Argyll and Bute in the last few years, as well as an increased number of people eloping to the area to get married.

Helensburgh registration office covers the areas of Arrochar, Shandon, Luss, Cove, Rhu, Cardross, Colgrain, Ardgartan, Kilcreggan, Rosneath, Helensburgh and a large area of Loch Lomond.

Their ceremony room is located in the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre where the registration team and customer service point is based.

In 2023 the registrars conducted 142 ceremonies, registered 203 births and 272 death resgitrations as well as being involved in customer services enquiries.
