Ben View is a charitable organisation that delivers essential
community care services to the residents of West Dunbartonshire.
In doing this, we assist the many people in need
by empowering them to lead fulfilled and independent lives.

March 25, 3pm

STOP PRESS: A re-assuring statement for elderly and vulnerable clients of the Ben View Centre, next door to St Patrick’s Church in Strathleven Place, Dumbarton, came today from Dame Jackie Baillie, the MSP for Dumbarton constituency.

Dame Jackie, right,  told The Dumbarton Democrat: ““These budgets are facing cuts imposed by the SNP government which is leading to a loss of services.

“Across the country Health & Social Care Partnerships are facing severe challenges with their budgets because the Scottish Government have made real terms cuts.

“I understand that West Dunbartonshire will work with the Benview Centre to review how funding is allocated but this will not lead to the closure of the centre which provides valuable services to our local community.”

West Dunbartonshire Council, however, have refused to comment, so it would be wise to make a comment yourself and sign the petition, given that so many people are concerned about this. This will underscore your opposition to any moves to reduce the service at this excellent service. Editor

Why this petition matters

Started by Rachael Hughes

All at Ben View are absolutely devastated and shocked to have received an email yesterday from WDHSCP, advising that Ben View is being discussed at their board meeting next week (Thursday) with a proposal being made that our funding is reduced by £62,000.

The cut would mean a direct reduction in our lunch club and bathing service, but the bigger picture is that all of the community initiatives we have would be impacted.

We are at this point concerned that Ben View would survive in any shape or form with this level of cut.

Our community is suffering and we cant afford to lose any more of our lifeline services. We are in tears in here today, we cant imagine having to tell any of our lovely members that what they have and treasure is at risk.

As previously mentioned, the proposed cut not only takes away/reduces the funded services, but puts at risk our youth programme, children’s fund, befriending service, the building itself, and the room let and office space that we provide.

There’s also all our community initiatives: warm & toasty, our budget cooking classes, afternoon teas, the proposed Ben View Community garden that is underway and the list goes on…

On top of that there are 10 paid workers and 30 volunteers feeling the pain.
Very sad times, but we need to fight this and will need all your help.
