Local government employers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have announced a pay offer of at least £1,290 for council and school staff – falling short of their claim for a better deal, UNISON head of local government, Mike Short said.
He added: “Council and school staff deserve a decent pay rise for the vital support they provide to communities. But this offer falls short of the union’s reasonable claim.
“Many workers will feel let down because their household bills continue to rise. UNISON will consult representatives over the coming days before deciding the next steps.”
UNISON members will get a chance to give their view. “
“It’s important right now to start sharing information about the offer, and talking to your colleagues about it. And, of course, get them to join UNISON! join.unison.org.uk

Member Natalie Ellis said: “Well I hope Unison rejects that offer….
That offer is less than last year…. And that offer is the full time 52 week equivalent…. Yet most education staff are only term time workers…. so that would not be an amount we actually receive… never mind tax.”
Matthew Peyton added: “I can’t help but foresee a repeat of last year, where the unions will reject the deal but won’t get enough support in a strike ballot, so we won’t get any increase until the end of November again.”
Ceri Turner maintained: “It’s not that bills have gone up – it’s that this government has not paid decent wages and have failed in given deserved pay rises. The cost of living has highlighted this.”
Scottish members are keeping a close eye on what is happening down south.
Tricia Kelly said: “This is an insult there should be a vote to strike..see how schools function without support staff…”
