Friends of Havoc Meadows

A big thank you to local volunteers (and two on holiday from Lancashire!) who came to the group Balsam Bash at Havoc today. Removing invasive Himalayan Balsam protects Havoc’s rare wildlife, such as these Northern Marsh and Common Spotted orchids, flowering now (bottom left). To join a future Bash, email havocmeadow@gmail.com
Sadly, all this good work cannot undo the fact that Havoc is a leaking toxic landfill site.
Take a walk down to the foreshore and look at the red – orange leachate that pervades the area. Its the visible example of the filthy leaking dump that is so much of the Dumbarton landscape.
And there’s another landfill covered up with nothing more than a few inches of soil further along the shore back towards Dumbarton. And they wonder why Dumbarton has high levels of cancer. might be something to do with years of environmental pollution left unattended.
