On Saturday we celebrated the launch of our community quilt inspired by Turkey Red designs in the Vale of Leven Heritage Hub. There was digging and dancing too!
Earlier this year we put a call out for people who would be interested in making a collaborative quilt. Quilter Patricia Macindoe guided our makers with her expert knowledge. Each quilter designed and sewed a ‘block’ which together form the community quilt.
Plants for dyeing textiles were also planted in Alexandria Library garden including Madder Rose which was used in the Turkey Red dyeing process.
We were delighted that Abhinaya dance group joined us to celebrate in dance some of the myths which are portrayed in the Turkey Red designs.
Our quilters were Elaine Giannini, Marlene Angus, Margaret Reid, Anne Crawley, Natalie McDonald, Catherine McDonald, Yvonne Clark and Vicky Graham.
