A special donation into the archive today by Willy Maley. Willy a Scottish literary critic, editor, teacher and writer who has had a profound influence on multiple generations of students and writers in Glasgow and beyond. He was a Professor of Renaissance Studies at the University of Glasgow, Fellow of the English Association and founder, with Philip Hobsbaum, of Glasgow’s Creative Writing programme. He is a prolific author on subjects including early modern English literature from Spenser to Milton, and on modern Scottish and Irish writing.
His donation included correspondence with Alasdair during his very short professorship on the Creative Writing course and transcripts and correspondence relating to Willy’s contribution to ‘The Book of Prefaces.
Recently we have been reorganising our collection, dedicating boxes to others and showing the web of connections and influence around Gray. Cannot wait to use this generous donation to create our very own Willy Maley box! What a brilliant addition to the archive, huge thanks Willy!
