Ripping down one monstrosity for another to be demolished in a few years , no long term thinking in WDC

Looks like WDC have wasted the money they received for improving our town centre. As someone has already said, a more timeless look would have been better than another ghastly eyesore.

Clydebank shopping centre was a freezing cold wind tunnel before they roofed it and put doors at the entrances, the picture you have is in sunny weather it rains here on average for 171 days per year, so that’s just under half the time it’s raining!
Architects usually never have to live with their “creations” and looking at this plan it has everything to do with the architect showing his/her design at their dinner parties and hee haw to do with the people of Dumbarton and those planning on using Dumbarton town centre.
Are architects and town planners in the real world ! Their vision are not what a community needs, the decorative beams, poles and big silly bollards are a complete waste of money
We want good shops, decent parking, toilets and a couple of places to meet up and have a cuppa with a kids play area.
A lot of people rely on charity shops so they are needed.
Reinstate the square that used to be in the middle of the centre and bring back the pedestrian entrance to the theatre. Reduce or remove business rates for units around the square for the first year or more to give businesses a chance to establish. Bring a bit of heart back into the place. The square was busy when I was a kid.
People need basic facilities and services that are sadly lacking not money wasted on posh looking vanity projects.

I’m sure it will look lovely but decent shops need to be encouraged to come to Dumbarton with lower rent.  Also The Vale being to next town to Balloch,it should be a nice area for tourists to visit but it has nothing to even keep locals here.

William Giffen I love all the positive comments 🤣

Elaine Mcintyre  More money wasted by our council. The library we have was fine glencairn house money wasted. We need some decent shops not more charity shops etc. Play area hope it doesn’t attract the undesirables.

Jamie Lees  Flamingo land?

Conrad Gross  You know what including art and sculpture is fine and dandy if you do the basics right. However getting the basics right is something that WDC and our councillors are renowned for completely screwing up. Need an example take a quick look at what they have done around the new development at Browns in Clydebank the roads are a nightmare and dodgy as hell with the cobbles that they have put in not just for pedestrians but also cyclists motorcyclists car drivers.

Margot Rhead  Give me strength! Someone involved needs to consider seeking medical attention. This looks like an unsuccessful game of Jengo. What happened to “aesthetically pleasing” as an aim in town planning?

Stephanie Bell  Surely something with a more classic/timeless look would be more appropriate rather than a trendy aesthetic that will be dated in 10 years.. much like the eyesore that we’ve been left with after the last makeover.

Dee Martin  There are some really beautiful old buildings on the high street, clearly in disrepair and an eye sore, why not get theses all fixed up instead, this project in 10 years, probably much less than that, will look just as run down as the last “improvement”

Darren Nicholson What an improvement! The area looks so much better with the space, but think the architects are missing the back of the shops in this render. Just need to reduce the cost of the shops and get some decent shops in there.

Gary Mclean  Aka bringing in planters

Allison Green  Reduce the rates for the shops then we may have a chance of shops being filled and making it a proper shopping centre/high street

Dee Martin  Also when was the last time you seen any maintenance being done on the high street by the council ? And I don’t mean ripping down buildings, basic maintaining, cleaning etc, I certainly have never seen it, the council will not maintain this project, because they don’t maintain what’s already there

Kathy Shaw I counted 5 beggars last Saturday

William John Bell  hear hear…lets hope they listen. the Artizan centre always reminded me of an East european communist era town centre.

Scott Malcolm Nice new benches for the junkies to sit on

David Millen  A nice space to walk if you are visiting the Turkish barbers or the vape shop or the Turkish barbers or the vape shop or……
