Scottish National Party candidate Kevin Crawford has been elected to represent residents in West Dunbartonshire’s Clydebank Waterfront Ward following a by-election held yesterday (Thursday).
But only a quarter of the people entitled to vote turned out to the polling stations and Cllr Crawford was not elected until stage seven of the Single Transferable Vote count with 1331 votes.
The outcome of the by-election was not announced by West Dunbartonshire Council chief executive Peter Hessett until two o’clock on Friday morning after the official count of ballots at Clydebank Leisure Centre.
