Police arrest crossbow man in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

The incident took place at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A man has been arrested after reportedly entering Queen Elizabeth University Hospital armed with a crossbow this morning.

Police, including firearms officers, raced to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow after receiving reports of the incident at around 6.30am.

The weapon was not discharged, and no injuries have been reported. The hospital’s atrium was briefly closed and traffic around the site was diverted while it was dealt with.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, with an inquiry now underway.

No hospital services were disrupted, and police have reassured that there is no risk to the wider public.

Health board NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said their security teams handled the incident before officers arrived on scene.

Inspector Alyssa Fullelove-McCann said: “I’m aware this incident will be concerning but I’d like to provide reassurance that it is being treated as isolated and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

“Officers will remain in the area while inquiries are carried out and anyone with concerns or information can speak to them or call 101.”
