This week is Volunteers’ Week, an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.
Dumbarton FC would be nothing without its volunteers, these people being the heart and soul of the club and a central driving force in our recovery from administration.
As we prepare for next season, a fresh start and a new era, everyone involved at Dumbarton Football Club would like to thank all volunteers for their invaluable contributions to the club they love.
While players enjoy holidays and fans take a break, your DFC volunteers have been busy helping the club get ready for season 2025/26, including at the recent Stadium Maintenance Day attended by so many.
To truly emphasize how much we all value our volunteers, our incoming club owner Mario Lapointe also shared a special message of thanks for each and every one of you.
Mario said: “I see that on our LinkedIn Dumbarton Football Club page a slogan “Nothing is impossible if you believe” and I would like to add to this a Canadian flavour if you permit me. For 20 years in coaching, I have used this slogan to bring young men and women to become the best they can be, to become great individuals, to become athletes and have the right mindset and for a handful to become pretty good at their sports.
“Never has this slogan been used more importantly than now. Impossible + determination equals possible, and when determination tends to flake as it can sometimes, persevere.
“Dumbartonians, fans of our football club, especially the volunteers of our football club have demonstrated how true this little slogan of mine can turn the impossible to possible. Their resilience to hold the fort strong through this rough patch over the last couple of years is a true reflection of the type of people who have represented this historic town for generations and centuries before them.
“For you, it’s in your DNA to volunteer and help out as you do for the football club that you were born into, from your grandparents, parents, now you. So for an outsider like myself I can only admire your love for this team, for its heritage and for the legacy we will together pass on.
“From me to you today, thank you to all our volunteers, for the decades of help or for just last week, old or young, for the passion, the commitment and the love that you have for this football club. We have so much to do, but we can do it with a smile together, be positive, and enjoy the adventure because sometimes the exact destination is not all that important, it’s the folks and the stuff you get to do and share to get to it that is important. Thank you.”
Mario looks forward to meeting all volunteers when he visits Dumbarton later this month.
Thanks again from everyone at the club to all our amazing volunteers.
