YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR HAT OFF TO THEM. These guys are amazing at Helensburgh RNLI.
On Wednesday 11th June at 3.44pm the Lifeboat Station alarm was sounding, by 3.46pm they were tearing along Rhu Bay, across the Clyde, to Loch Long.
On Thursday 12th June, late in the evening, with dark cloudy skies, in torrential rain, 20 mph wind gusts, they were sprinting to Lochgoilhead.
On Sunday 15th, they were called out on a extended search for a man overboard on the Clyde.
They give their free time, commit to regular training, respond at a moment’s notice, paged away from their families, their beds, leaving jobs & responsibilities, to go to sea.
OPEN DAY THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 21
To mark the Station’s Diamond Anniversary you can meet the team and hear their first hand accounts on saving lives at sea, learn about their training, what it means to be part of the RNLI, view the Atlantic 85 B Class Inshore Lifeboat named ‘Angus and Muriel MacKay’ and hear about the history of the station over the last 60 years. As well as a sea safety demonstration taking place at 1pm.
The Open Day event happens at Rhu Marina on Saturday 21st June from 11am to 2pm.
Tea, coffee and cakes will be available, as well as lifeboat-themed games and activities for children.
