When the wanderlust came o’er us. We did it! Just completed the incredible 96-mile West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William!
Our final day (Day
started with glorious sunshine
as we climbed out of Kinlochleven, rewarding us with breathtaking views over Loch Leven. Though the sun disappeared after an hour, the dramatic Lairigmor (the great pass) offered us easy walking between towering mountains draped in moody clouds.
The path wound through the glen northward into beautiful woodland and forestry plantations, with Britain’s highest peak Ben Nevis playing hide-and-seek (mainly HIDE
) behind the clouds. Our descent into Fort William led us to the famous finish at Gordon Square, where we posed with the “Sore Feet” bronze statue – honestly, it looked exactly like us by the end!

This journey has been absolutely magical. Huge thanks to everyone who shared their tips and wisdom, and to all the wonderful people we met along the way – from fellow walkers with ready smiles to the incredibly generous folks at the restaurants, B&Bs and hotels. The peaceful way of life in each Scottish village has left such an impression on us.
My biggest takeaways:
To anyone planning their own WHW adventure – GO FOR IT! Just don’t forget the essentials: walking poles, waterproof gear, a good cap to keep your glasses dry, and most importantly, proper walking boots!
Scotland, you’ve stolen our hearts!
