Cardross Parish Church
Today’s Messy Church was the last before the summer break and the last time Maggie will lead us. However it was a joyous occasion as we had fun outside in the sun and got to see the unveiling of a memorial from World War 2. The Russell family donated a bomb that had been dropped on Cardross back in March 1941 when the German Luftwaffe bombed the village. This 250KG high explosive bomb was dropped on Lea Farm (home to the Russell family) but failed to exploded. The Army bomb disposal squad were called and the safely detonated the bomb leaving behind the twisted remains. The metal shell of the bomb was kept in John and Anne Russell’s Church Avenue home until they passed away in recent times and the family decided that the church should have it as memorial to the bombing.
