Restoring the rainforest habitat in the National Park

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park

Did you know that Scotland is home to some of the best remaining temperate rainforest in Europe?

Comprised of the semi-natural woodlands of Scotland’s west coast, where high rainfall, relatively mild temperatures and clean air provide the perfect conditions for diverse and rare species to thrive, the restoration and expansion of this rainforest can help our fight against nature loss and the climate emergency.

With nearly half of the National Park within this rainforest zone, we are working with the Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforest to protect and enhance this important natural asset, including removing rhododendron and establishing the right level of herbivore grazing to support the woodland to regenerate naturally, as well as supplementary tree planting.

This work will not only restore rainforest habitat in the National Park, but will contribute to the larger aims of the Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforest – to look after and expand this unique habitat, provide jobs, protect the environment and allow people to enjoy the magic of the rainforest for generations to come.
