MARINE POLICE ENGAGED IN DRAMATIC ARREST IN THE FIRTH OF CLYDE OFF HELENSBURGH

The Daily Record is reporting that a dramatic police chase on the River Clyde earlier today involved armed police officers pursuing a small boat on the Firth of Clyde.

The 15ft long boat, was pursued by police off in Inverclyde on Sunday morning.

Several boats from Police Scotland’s Dive and Marine Unit, a police helicopter and the force dog unit were also drafted to take part in the chase.

It is understood that the boat was pursued from Greenock across the Firth into Helensburgh’s Rhu Marina before a man was apprehended by armed officers.

A source told the Daily Record: “There was a huge police chase on the River Clyde.  A helicopter was involved.”

Two large police boats then intercepted the boat on the Clyde while a helicopter hovered overhead.”

It is believed that the person in charge of the boat, who was wearing military-style fatigues,  was taken away by police for questioning.

Later it was revealed that an injured officer was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he is being kept in overnight.

Detectives confirmed a 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection.

A local person said: “I was passing at about 7am and emergency services were everywhere.”
