NUJ Glasgow AGM: 6pm tomorrow, Thursday 18 September 2025
Greeting NUJ members,
From media giants laying off workers to maximise profits, to despotic leaders trying to control what questions are asked of them, to Israel’s targeted killings of Palestinian journalists – journalism is under threat.
NUJ members work across newspapers, magazines, books, digital media, public relations and other related sectors. But we all have a stake in the future of our media. And fighting for safety, job security and a fair deal means building and maintaining a strong union – not just nationally, but in our branch here in Glasgow too.
Tomorrow evening, Thursday 18 September, the NUJ Glasgow branch will meet to discuss our priorities for the year ahead. Can you make it?
We’re holding a hybrid meeting at 6pm, at the STUC headquarters at 8 Landressy Street, Glasgow G40 1BP, and on Zoom, where you can join the meeting here:
https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81333283963?pwd=K4ZVtoZf1ob7bajuNpjBfD9A2lv2pa.1
There will be teas, coffees and snacks for those joining us in person at the STUC.
It’s our AGM, so we’ll be electing our branch officers: including chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer and welfare officer. If you’re interested in taking a role in the branch, we’d love to have you on board, and we can support you in whichever role you choose.
Whether you’re staff or freelance, getting active in your branch can help you and your colleagues avoid job losses, win better pay and secure a sustainable and realistic future for journalism and our media. With the support of your branch, you can build the union in your own workplace, improve your negotiating skills and secure payment for unauthorised use of your work. You can also meet like-minded colleagues and make new friends.
Over the past year, Glasgow branch has supported members with issues in the workplace, held a May Day film screening to mark the 50th anniversary of the Scottish Daily News, organised a vigil in solidarity with Palestinian journalists killed by Israel, and much much more. We’re now working on a campaign, survey and event focused on combating precarious work across the media.
But we need your help. Our branch officers are all volunteers, and while being active in the NUJ is hugely rewarding, many hands make lighter work.
We hope you can join us tomorrow evening. The agenda and relevant paperwork will be circulated ahead of the meeting tomorrow.
In solidarity + with care,
