BAILLIE WELCOMES ALEXANDRIA BANKING HUB ANNOUNCEMENT

By Lucy Ashton

MSP Jackie Baillie has welcomed the news that a site has been identified to house Alexandria’s banking hub.

The facility will be located in the former M & Co store on the town’s Main Street.

Work has commenced on the conversion, and community information sessions will take place.

The front section of the vacant clothing outlet will now house community banking facilities.

MSP Jackie has welcomed the move, which follows Bank of Scotland’s announcement that it will close its historic Main Street branch in March.

The politician had been instrumental in opposing the cuts and seeking replacement facilities for local people.

She had also arranged a public meeting last February, bringing together business owners, community leaders and banking bosses, to help inform the public.

Banking hubs are funded by banks and overseen by Cash Access UK. Facilities will be operated by the Post Office with bank staff at the hub.

The hubs ensure counter services can still be offered where banks have pulled out of towns, leaving residents without provision.

Jackie Baillie said: “I am delighted to hear that a site has been identified to house Alexandria’s banking hub.

“This is a prominent and accessible location, close to the last remaining banking branch.

“I am clear that provision must be made for elderly and vulnerable residents where banks decide to leave town.”

The new banking hub will allow customers to pay in and withdraw cash, check balances, pay utility bills and provide change services for business.
