Plans for the new permanent roof are currently in the final stages

HELENSBURGH LEISURE CENTRE LATEST UPDATE

Following the January 2025 extensive storm damage Argyll and Bute Council has starteed repairs.  In essence the A&BC October report states “Work has started on removing damaged parts of the roof and installing the temporary roof. Once wind and watertight, we will then carry out extensive internal surveys of the mechanical and electric systems throughout the building as well as the internal fabric. The plans for the new permanent roof are currently in the final stages of development”

  1. Here’s the big question in these cash strapped times.

How did it come to be that Argyll and Bute paid good money for an absolutely sub standard leisure facility.

The roof sustained damage and the centre had to be closed when in its very first winter parts of the roof failed.

Then a year later to the month the roof catastrophically failed with the centre now into its second year if closure as it gets rebuilt.

Who is being held accountable for this. The cost of closure, the loss of facility and the costs of repair will be running to tens of millions.

Or is this just one of these things where the hapless public just have to stump up.

  2. Last comment on the Helensburgh leisure centre debacle if I may is to ask what comment, if any, the local MSP and MP have in relation to this sorry disgraceful state of affairs.

And our councils say they are cash strapped.

  3. All MSPs and MPs and other elected representatives must have something to say about this. They are invited to comment here in The Democrat. A refusal to comment usually means they are embarrassed by what has happened or the opposite, they are content with this. So, how about tellin the electorate where you stand on this contentious matter?
