Match Report
Dumbarton earned their first three points in the league since September with a 2-1 win over Annan Athletic.
The hosts took the lead in slightly fortunate circumstances in the opening 11 minutes when a shot from Kai Kirkpatrick clipped off Leighton McIntosh and rolled into the corner, leaving the stranded Gio Clarke no chance.
The visitors offered little throughout the remainder of the half and had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping them in the game as he denied Aron Lynas and Dom Docherty before the interval.
After the break, the visitors started well and got their goal when Josh Dixon tucked a shot home following a short free-kick.
Sons came back into the game and took the lead in gorgeous fashion – a clipped ball to the back post was met by Tony Wallace who guided a volley into the far corner.
The home side nearly sealed the game with Dom Docherty and Scott Tomlinson coming close but there were not further goals as Dumbarton climb to fifth in William Hill League 2 ahead of next week’s trip to Elgin.
