What a shower of warmers the Labour administration on West Dunbartonshire Council are. They are paving the way for privatisation of our public services. And their comrades in the Scottish Parliament and Westminster are sitting on their hands while this is happening. Their track record on attempts to introduce a new system for bin collections services is derisory. The council’s management strategy is so bad it is being compared to Celtic FC’s new manager Wilfried Nancy’s, who has lost ALL three games, including a League Cup Final, since he arrived in Glasgow. This may be a joke to some but for others it is deadly serious. The Council, which has a long track record for victimisation and bullying its employees is also in manpower trouble again – this time with the trade unions. The compensation for the last employee they victimised is said following a hearing in the Court of Session to be heading towards the £1million mark, and at least one of the management team involved in that debacle is reported to be still in Church Street earning a salary beyond the dreams of avarice. It’s all coming out in a drip, drip manner of course as the Council goes into cover-up mode yet again. The three main unions, GMB, UNITE and UNISON are far from happy about this, although it is former UNISON shop steward David Smith who is at the centre of the most recent controversy. Not surprisingly, he is off work sick at the moment.
