Labour MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy will not seek re-election to Holyrood next year as she does not want her friendship with a convicted sex offender to “become a distraction”.
Earlier this month Duncan-Glancy resigned as the party’s education spokeswoman after admitting an “serious error of judgement” over her links to Sean Morton.
The MSP submitted her resignation after a said she had maintained contact with Morton, a former Labour councillor who admitted having indecent images of children and extreme pornography in 2017.
At the time Labour said she had done the right thing and it considered the matter closed.
Duncan-Glancy, who was elected to Holyrood in 2021, had been selected to contest a Glasgow seat.
But in a statement, issued on Sunday, the MSP confirmed that she had withdrawn her candidacy.
‘Very difficult decision’
Duncan-Glancy said: “While this has obviously been a very difficult decision – and it is the greatest honour of my life to represent Glasgow – I do not wish for a personal friendship to become a distraction.
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve, and I remain committed to returning a Scottish Labour government next year.”
Morton, a former councillor for Fochabers Lhanbryde, was ordered to carry out unpaid work and put on the sex offenders register after he pled guilty to possessing two indecent child image offences.
He had claimed the images were sent to him anonymously.
A Scottish Labour spokesperson said: ““The selection process will now be reopened so that a replacement candidate can be chosen.”

Just another example of the rotten foul individuals who form our political landscape.
I have no knowledge of Pam Duncan Glancy and her reason for standing down may well purely be that she maintained frienship with an ex Labour councillor convicted in 2017 of extreme child pornography. Quite why anyone would want to keep in contact with an individual convicted of such odious behaviour is the obvious question most would ask.
It’s certainly something that could politically derail a candidate’s election attempt come the Hollyrood election this year, and thus, the decision to stand down could have been an internal political matter rather than conscience. Politics is a dirty business and the question one has to ask why now for Pam Duncan Glancy’s decision.
Not a good look for Labour but is it a good look for any of our Hollywood set. The SNP most certainly showed how it was rotten to the core. Sturgeon and her coterie of control most certainly showed that in an utterly coordinated attempted stich up of an innocent man. And of course aside of it having been largely suppressed that one saintly leader of the SNP had prior to here election been found guilty by the Law Society of conduct unbecoming of a solicitor, said same individual is then at the head of a party with hundreds of thousands of missing money, embezzlement charges and luxury motor homes.
And so it goes on in the other parties too. Same rotten standards. Our parliament from a high point in 2014 has turned into a cess pit, with its politics a squabbling mess squandering much and delivering little. But that is exactly the way that Westninster want it.
Labour, Tory, Green and now the SNP a plague on all their houses. And for anyone thinking about the right wing English nationalist Reform one can only wish any turkey voting for that well.
