Police travel advice has been issued following an Amber weather warning for wind across the south of Scotland.
It’s blowing a gale out there, and the problems have already started with an accident on the notorious A85 Loch Lomond to Inverary road. Police advise ignoring the route to Oban if you can.
The Met Office has issued an Amber weather warning for wind and rain — and possibly even snow. This warning is in place from 7 pm on Saturday, 4 April, until 3 am on Sunday, 5 April, 2026.
Inspector Steve Manson, Road Policing, said: “The Amber warning for wind means there is a high risk of disruption on the road network and travel conditions may be hazardous.
“Our advice is to plan and consider if your journey is really necessary or if it can be delayed until conditions improve. Stopping distances can be at least twice as long on wet roads compared to dry conditions, and spray can reduce driver visibility.
“HGV and bus drivers should drive with extreme caution and be aware that they may be asked to park at a suitable position by the police.
“If you need to travel, please drive under the conditions and take extra time for your journey.
“Stay tuned to media outlets for further updates and consult the Traffic Scotland website from Dumbarton man Stein Connolly and social media channels for information relating to affected roads.”
