WHAT’S ON AT THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT

On Tuesday, MSPs voted to select John Swinney MSP as the First Minister of Scotland.  

Following his selection, the First Minister set out his goals for the Parliament’s seventh session. These included:

• Tackling the cost of living crisis
• Improving the NHS
• Strengthening cohesion in communities
• Protecting the environment
• Growing the economy

Following the appointment of the First Minister and a formal swearing-in ceremony at the Court of Session, the First Minister was invited to form a government.

The Cabinet is the main decision-making body of the Scottish Government, made up of the First Minister and all Cabinet Secretaries. Cabinet Secretaries are then supported by Ministers.

In the following weeks, Parliament will consider the formation of committees and the selection of committee Conveners.
