Questions were raised about the number of participants who would turn up for the Loch Lomond event which is organised annually by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust, who are responsible for the strategic and operational management of the council’s sport and leisure facilities.
Cllr William Rooney said: “For me, as a runner, one of the most important events of the year is the Loch Lomond 10k.
“There will be people running to improve their own times and prove themselves better.
“It is a really good opportunity for locals to raise money for charity and local charities, which I think is a really good thing.”
John Anderson, general manager of the WDLT, said there would likely be fewer participants than in previous years as a result of the World Cup.
He said: “Unfortunately, we think we are going to have a lesser number this year because unfortunately it takes place directly after one of Scotland’s World Cup games.
“So people will be up through the night watching the game and then coming down to Balloch to start the run at 9/9.30 in the morning.
