Community Council Elections

Argyll and Bute Council logoPlease stand for your community council

Community councillors represent their community in lots of different ways. They are consulted by the Council and they can also get involved in local campaigns to improve their area and organise local community activities.
As the ‘grass roots’ tier of statutory representation in Scotland, our community councils play a vital role in local life.
Community council elections will take place across Argyll and Bute on 20 August 2026, and we would love to encourage people to stand for office and help shape how council and other public services are delivered in your area.
You can find out more about the work of community councils and the support available to them on our website.
If you would like to make a difference within your local community, please download a nomination pack to stand for your community council. Nominations must be returned by 4.00 pm on Thursday, 25 June 2026We look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Looks like the numbers of people putting their name forward to stand for the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park has collapsed.

In two out of the five wards only one candidate has come forward to stand. This as folks will appreciate is an utter condemnation about what folks think about our so called democracy. They have absolutely no faith in the rotten edifice that is the LLTNP authority.

Of course anyone who has read about how the 75 year old elected member for Balloch was hounded and harried for asking question about planning issues and peoples rights will know elected representative are not there to represent the people but rather to abide by park board decisions and policies. People also know that for asking questions to which he was getting no answers elected member Sid Perrie was whilst medically certified to be unfit dragged in absentia, and without representation, into a complaint process whereby he was suspended for six months. The board for good measure even stopped his ” sick pay “.

But the tide is turning. Sid Perrie has launched a Sheriff Court appeal into the legality of his suspension prepared by the legal firm headed by the eminent KC who is acting for Moira Salmond in her action against the Scottish Government. Mr Perrie is going to have his day in court and have issues previously hidden exposed to the light of day,

And of course, in Glasgow, city councillor Fiona Higgins is having her case reviewed in a Judicial Review in the Court of Session using the same Salmond legal team. Again like Sid Perrie, she has been pursued by asking questions of authority officials.

But for those interested undernoted is a link to a Parks Watch article just published regarding the shocking Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park,

  2. And in terms of loss of confidence it has just emerged that the Tories have taken Edinburgh South from the SNP whilst in Abroath and Broughty Ferry the SNP have held on.

And of Labour they came 4th in both by elections.

Not good news for Anas Sarwar in Scotland, and not good news for Andy Burnham.

Anyway, the results were just announced around 5.00am this Friday morning and it will be interesting as to how the media spin this.
