Michael Marra has said today that the pause to fire and rehire “isn’t good enough,” as he calls on delegates to the UK Labour Party Conference to vote in support of an emergency motion condemning Glasgow City Council, backing Trade Unions, and calling for the threat of fire and rehire to be ditched.
Scottish Labour Leader Michael Marra said: “This week our biggest city – Glasgow City Council run by the SNP and propped up by the Greens – threatened the largest fire and rehire in British history.
“23,000 workers threatened with the sack just weeks – weeks – before this Labour government outlaws the practice for good.
“They have paused the process, but that isn’t good enough. This Labour conference will debate an emergency motion condemning the council, backing our trade unions and calling for the threat of fire and rehire to be taken off the table for good.
“This motion will send the clearest possible message that the Labour movement will never accept threats to working people.”
