Libraries across Scotland are coming together to promote reading for pleasure for people of all ages

Libraries across Scotland are coming together to promote reading for pleasure for people of all ages.  We are really passionate about bringing back the joy of reading and would love for West Dunbartonshire residents to get involved in the new national reading campaign Wee Read.

Wee Read is Scotland’s national celebration of reading – a simple invitation for everyone to stop, take a few minutes, and enjoy the pleasure of reading. Whether it’s a novel, comic, magazine, newspaper, audiobook, poem, or recipe, every kind of reading counts. On 7 October 2026, people across Scotland will come together for one shared moment to celebrate the joy of reading and the positive difference it can make to our wellbeing, learning and everyday lives. Libraries throughout Scotland are the perfect place to start your reading journey. And part of our goal is to encourage more people into libraries – inspiring everyone to read regularly for pleasure. By taking part, you’re joining thousands of people across Scotland – from schools, libraries and workplaces to community groups, families and individuals – to help create a country where reading is valued, shared and enjoyed by all.

Have a Wee Read and help Scotland become a nation that enjoys reading.

Anyone of any age can sign up to pledge to have a Wee Read on Wednesday, October 7th on the website: https://weeread.scot. We would love for West Dunbartonshire to be well represented in this national campaign, and it will take less than a minute to make your pledge. There are no restrictions on what can be read, so fiction, non-fiction, comics & graphic novels, picture books, and audiobooks all count towards the Wee Read.

We’d love to see you in any of our libraries on Wednesday to have a wee browse, a wee blether, and a wee read. Why not bring along a friend or family member who hasn’t been in the library for a while and show them what they’ve been missing out on.
