Councillor Lauren Oxley – Clydebank Waterfront Ward
Councillor Lauren Oxley – Clydebank Waterfront Ward is with Councillor Gordon Scanlan – Kilpatrick on a message for November 5.

It was good to be part of a productive multi-agency meeting to discuss preparations for Bonfire Night and the steps being taken to keep our communities safe, writes Councillor Lauren Oxley, right..We discussed the antisocial behaviour we saw in Dalmuir last year and the steps a range of partners are taking to help prevent a repeat, including services across West Dunbartonshire Council and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. This includes sharing intelligence and coordinating efforts to ensure the most effective response.
We also discussed the illegal sale of fireworks and the importance of reporting any concerns. Trading Standards have been visiting local businesses to check that their stock and sales comply with the relevant regulations. If you have any concerns about fireworks being sold illegally in our area, please report them: https://www.scotland.police.uk/con…/how-to-report-a-crime/
Lastly, we discussed the benefits of attending organised fireworks displays, such as the Council-run display at Levengrove Park. I’m also aware of proposals for a community-run display at Whitecrook Park.
If a licence is granted and the event goes ahead, I hope it will provide an opportunity to bring people together and enjoy Bonfire Night safely, particularly as Clydebank has been without an organised display since the Labour administration cut the annual event at Dalmuir Park in 2022.
However, I’d ask everyone attending to be considerate of the surrounding residential area by parking responsibly, keeping noise to a minimum, disposing of litter properly and respecting local residents.
