YER HAVING A LAUGH. NO WONDER OUR COUNCIL TAX IS EXTORIONATE

Nice to see someone has kept their sense of humour in the trying circumstances in which the people at the end of the phone are (when they answer it), with this greeting/complaint to the WDC complaints column.

Kevin Gresham: Morning, Pauline!

May your day be pleasant and filled with empty bins, cut grass, neatly trimmed bushes, filled potholes, and bereft of dog poo! Have a cuppa and a chocolate digestive, take a deep breath, and steady yourself for the day ahead!
Readers of The Dumbarton Democrat will have noted that the illustrations in the column are of the Lomondgate stag, which is soon  (maybe they have already arrived) to have a storage site for out-of-service portaloos next to it. The second picture is of the Titan Crane, Clydebank’s pride and joy, which is supposed to be a tourism attraction but is now neglected, rusting and falling apart at Queens Quay on the banks of the River Clyde.
Keep the complaints coming, though. You may be one of the lucky ones who receive a response better than the current one trotted out  – “We’ll flag this up to the team.”
Then again, you might be one of the unlucky ones who never hear from them again.

I am told that people who live in Dumbarton are deciding to stay in bed longer in the mornings. The reason is that they prefer to wait to get up until the Council, Scottish Water, Scottish Gas, and the rest of the public services have removed the roadworks and temporary traffic lights that keep us all back from getting to work or school or whatever in the morning.

Walkin’ the Dog. Man’s best friend is hugely popular in Dumbarton and the Vale, but the cost of keeping a pet is rising exponentially. The Government has noticed this to the extent that it is currently passing legislation at Westminster to stop vets ripping off dog lovers with prescription charges when their pets become ill. I have heard they have put a limit on what they can charge to £21.  I recently asked an elderly woman whose dog had passed on to the great Kennel in the Sky when she would be replacing him. “I won’t be, Bill. It’s too expensive to keep a dog these days.” Such a pity then that veterinary surgeons have to make lonely old folk suffer to that extent. Pure greed on their part, I’d say.  Instead of operating from a once wee corner shop, the veterinary business has become so profitable that they now advertise on television and operate from supermarkets in retail estates. Changed days.

  1. Portaloos at the Lomondgate Stag… I’ll bet folks living nearby, as well as those staying at the Premier Inn and grabbing a coffee at Costa or Starbucks, will love the nearby portaloo park.

With landscaped verges already torn up and thousands of tonnes of stone rubble put down for the aforesaid, the area has taken a big downward dive.

Quite why the council has allowed this is a good question. But hey, Portaloos have got to be stored somewhere. Surprised the Council never thought about Levengrove Park.
