HONOURING RHU’S PAST – A SPECIAL TRIBUTE
We are incredibly grateful to regular contributor and maritime enthusiast George Rankin for sharing this deeply moving piece of our local history ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
George writes:
“Mum and Dad were married in Rhu & Shandon Parish Church. Back then, Dad lived in Cathkin (Ardenconnel Way), and Mum lived in Rhubaan (Upper Hall Road).
It is hard to fathom how families survived the immense pain of wartime separation. In Rhubaan alone, there were four sisters with men away at war, and incredibly, they all made it back safely.”
Pictured here are the medals of George’s father, Sergeant Kinnon Miller Rankin, who served with distinction in the 1st Battalion, The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Lovingly displayed by the family.
Thank you, George, for sharing and reminding us of the resilience of our community.
Lest We Forget.
