Costs for the delayed CalMac ferry contract at the Ferguson yard in Port Glasgow have doubled, Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP said: “The disastrous placing of the orders for the two new vessels has now resulted in almost a doubling of their costs. The taxpayer has been lumped with an extra £100million in costs and a huge delay.
“The Cabinet Secretary is quick to pin the blame on management at Ferguson, but let’s not forget the Scottish Government had a significant role to play in ensuring due diligence was conducted in full. Clearly it was not.

OLD FOLK RECEIVE CLACHAN CHRISTMAS CAKE CHEER
Caring pupils at Clachan Primary School have been hard at work over the last few months, preparing 48 Christmas cakes to give to retired residents in the local community. The annual school tradition dates back more than two decades and sees the children bake, package and hand-deliver the cakes to elderly people in the village.

Catherine Frances Campbell, who lives at the Ach-an-Eas care home in Island Bank Road, Inverness, celebrated with relatives including her niece, who had travelled all the way to the city from Australia. Cathie was born in Dumbarton and her parents were John, a wine and spirit merchant, and Ann, who was a housewife. Miss Campbell was one of 11 children and her twin sister Margaret enjoyed similar longevity by reaching the age of 97.

BBC Scotland is reporting that a dog owner who gagged her pet with duct tape to go on holiday for the weekend has been banned from keeping animals for 15 years. Elizabeth Steel abandoned the Collie cross without adequate food or water after covering its face with a taped-on muzzle so it could not bark.
