Council staff left without a loo

Burgh Hall new artist's impressionWest Dunbartonshire Council’s recently opened headquarters in the old Burgh Hall in Dumbarton, pictured right,  has been left without working toilets.

The £15 million refurbishment, opened in May, had no toilet facilities after a power cut on Friday. They staggered along for a time but later ceased to work altogether. Drinking water was unaffected, however.

Staff were advised they could use laptops and work from elsewhere if they wished. The toilet facilities at Dumbarton Sheriff Court were placed temporarily at their disposal while engineers were called in to repair the the pumping equipment.

Union officials said an agreement had been reached with the court staff, which is itself currently being refurbished, over use of the facilities at Church Street.

Val Jennings of Unison said: “Unison has communicated to members what their rights are in a situation like this, as we take their welfare seriously. Also we have been in communication with managers and have been keeping up to date with progress on the situation.”

The Council communications department refused to comment.
