Saltzburg lead Celtic a merry dance in Vienna while Rangers skate it at Ibrox
Celtic were led a merry dance to the tune of a Viennese waltz tonight. Saltzburg out classed and outplayed the Glasgow club whose team selection was questionable and tactics poor. Celtic scored early on and clung on to their lead until the interval. Eduard was the scorer. But in the second half they caved in to the fitter, faster Austrians, who scored three goals. Forrest was ordered off after he gave away a penalty kick. Final score Saltzburg 3 Celtic 1.
It was a different story at Ibrox Park in Glasgow where Rangers beat Rapide Vienna by three goals to one. Morales scored two of the goals, one of them to equalise just before half time and the other to put the match beyond doubt in the last few minutes. Tavernier, a classy full-back, scored from the penalty spot after a ludicrously late challenge by a Rapide defender on Morales. The Rapide goal, which put them ahead in the first half, was blatantly off-side. Man of the match was Ally McCoist, the commentator, who was convinced from the outset that Rangers would win. He was right. Rangers 3 Rapide Vienna 1.
Rangers come back from one down to win the match convincingly.
