Provost hosts Town Hall reception for black trade unionists

STUC Black workers Conf 2018

A group of representatives from the STUC Black Workers Committee were honoured at a civic reception over the weekend.  Provost William Hendrie welcomed the group to a ceremony after their 22nd annual conference, held in the Golden Jubilee Hotel and Conference Centre, in Clydebank.  The aim of the conference was to determine priorities for the committee, and ensure race equality issues are included in the wider work of the STUC.  Provost Hendrie addressed Chairperson, Suki Sangha and delegates ahead of the civic reception.  He said: “The work that the STUC Black Workers Committee do has never been more valuable. Scotland considers itself a diverse, modern and outward looking country and it is important that our workforce reflects this -and that we continue to break down barriers.  There is a great deal of progress to be made before we can consider ourselves to be a truly inclusive nation but it gives me great hope that groups like this are committed to getting us there.”
