Royal Navy Sailors recently hosted a  group of Erskine Veterans and their caring staff during a visit to HM Naval Base Clyde.

Seven Veterans and five caring staff visited Faslane on Thursday, November 1, and were taken on a guided tour of the Naval Base, which included visits to Northern Diving Group and Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST).

The visit was one of many organised by HMS Neptune staff to give the Veterans an  insight and understanding of the operations, departments, accommodation and mess facilities which are provided by HMNB Clyde and HMS Neptune.

In addition,  the visit allows the staff at Clyde to show their thanks to the Veterans and they were all treated to a buffet lunch in the Warrant Officers’ and Senior Rates Mess where a raffle was also held to raise cash for Erskine.

Before leaving the Base, the Veterans, staff and fund raising team were presented with a cheque for £1,853.42 which has been raised by HMNB Clyde staff .

Chief Petty Officer  Murray Anderson who organised the visit said:  “It was an honour to be involved in organising the visit for the veterans and staff from Erskine. It’s really important that we strengthen the links we have with Erskine so that we can continue to show our appreciation to our Veterans .”

As Scotland’s foremost provider of care for veterans and their spouses, Erskine provides unrivalled nursing, residential, respite and dementia care in four homes throughout Scotland.

The charity also assists younger veterans who need help to begin the next chapter of their lives, offering social, recreation and training facilities at their Activity Centre and employment opportunities in partnership with Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Co.

There are 44 cottages for veterans and their families at the Erskine Estate at Bishopton with building work underway for five assisted living apartments and 24 single living apartments.
