Mental health issues to help you back smiling again.

A new website dedicated to raising awareness of good mental health across West Dunbartonshire, Argyll and Greater Glasgow and Clyde is now live.

Developed by the Board’s mental health staff, www.headsup.scot provides information about common mental health conditions, what the experience may feel like and guidance on different ways to cope.  The site also contains a wide range of information on the types of services available to our residents.

One-in-four people are likely to experience a mental health problem at some time in their lives.  As a result, it’s important to know when you need help and where you can access it. Anyone who feels they need extra help can visit the website to find out about the various forms of support provided by us and other organisations.

With this is mind, Heads Up has been created to offer mental health advice as well as explain mental health conditions. The site also goes in to detail about how people can support themselves, loved ones, the services available and the range of interventions which may be appropriate.

The main sections of the website cover:

  • Urgent help
  • Mental Health conditions
  • Service and support
  • Keeping well
  • Your rights
  • Real Lives – real stories
  • Resources

Ronnie Sharp, patient services manager, said: “Heads Up is for each of us. That includes you, your family, your friends, your work colleagues, and the people we work with to get healthier.  We hope that Heads Up will play a role in supporting and increasing understanding about good mental health in our communities.”

As part of our commitment to make healthcare available to all, the website also has a dedicated section specifically for British Sign Language users whose preferred method of communication is using sign language.

Research has shown that many sign language users have difficulties accessing written health information due to language and communication limitations. A glossary of Mental Health terms are outlined with accompanying sign language videos to empower our Deaf community.
