Scotrail has racked up fines of almost £13 million since Abellio took over the franchise new figures released this week show.
New statistics show that the franchise missed 23 out of 38 key benchmarks. The benchmarks includes public announcements at stations and on trains, both of which the company failed to meet their targets of 95 percent, and litter and contamination where they scored their lowest mark of just 63 percent against a target of 95 percent.
This takes the total fines for the franchise so far to £12,909,706.
Jackie Baillie said: “It is no surprise that the Scotrail franchise are continuing to be fined as a result of poor performance.
“There has been a spate of cancellations at stations in my own constituency, with passengers left stranded on the platform and having to make alternative arrangements, often at short notice.
“For almost a year my constituents have suffered at the hands of a train company who are failing to provide a reliable basic public transport service. The firm have now racked up more than £12 million worth of fines since the franchise began.
“It is time the Transport Secretary stripped Abellio of the franchise and brought our railway into public ownership to ensure that passengers are put before profit.”
