James Wolfe QC and Jackie Baillie MSP

A letter from The Lord Advocate, James Wolfe QC to Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton, has suggested that progress is being made with the investigation with a final report from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) expected by the end of October.

Cameron House fire

The fire that swept through Cameron House two years ago.

Mr. Wolfe informed Jackie that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is expected to deliver a report on its findings to the Crown Office Health and Safety Investigation Unit (HSIU) by the end of October. This report will then be combined with reports from other relevant investigation agencies with the hope that decisions on proceedings will then be able to be made by the Senior Advocate Depute.

This is the first suggestion of a possibility of answers following almost two years of near silence whilst a number of organisations investigated the cause of the fatal fire at Cameron House.

Jackie Baillie said:“My priority has always been, and will continue to be, getting answers for the families of the victims of this tragic fire. The families have been nothing but understanding and patient whilst dealing with their unimaginable loss and heartache.

“The completion of the SFRS report is very welcome indeed and I hope that the Senior Advocate Depute can start to draw conclusions from the evidence provided in the findings from a number of different agencies, including the Police.

As we approach the two year anniversary of this awful fire, the families and our local community deserve answers. I hope we are now a big step closer to understanding what happened so that the families of those who sadly lost their lives can get some peace.”
